What? Don't be ridiculous. You won't see many of them around North Sydney, but the wife beater is staple of Australian fashion among men who can't refer to their favourite hairdressers by name.
You have got to get out more.

I have never heard that term - Wikipedia linked to a post on sleeveless shirts. If this is the case, then you just live in the wrong part of the country - come north.
