quicko: sir ... miss ...
Evidently there is a trend in public Australian schools these days to call teachers "Sir" and "Miss." It's entirely a new thing in the last couple of years, and it strikes me as really strange. "Sir" is perhaps alright, but "Miss" seems almost derogatory. Hmmm.

It is not a new thing. We used to do that in primary school, which was more than a couple of years ago I can tell you.
What's derogatory about 'miss'?
"Miss" slurs to become "Ms" - can't you just see the straining child, arm up as high as it will go, calling out "Ms, Ms".
