quicko: pink and green slips
Not related to work or watermelon. These are for cars: the papers the mechanics and RTA (Road and Travel Authority if I'm not mistaken) must sign off on to allow your car to drive. They're pricey and there's a particular order and all they must be done in. They vary from state to state, too. New South Welshfolk have informed me that their requirements are particularly stringent, which is why you don't see bad cars in Sydney.

NSW requires roadworthy certificates each year I believe. Queensland doesn't.
When I worked for Walgett Shire Council with responsibility for Lightning Ridge (closer to the border) I saw a lot of cars with Qld plates. There is a tiny "blink and you miss it" settlement just over the border in Qld, near LR, called Hebel. It must have had *interesting* population stat's.
Of course, LR was also probably the nearest sizeable town for a lot of Queensland graziers and farmers.
