quicko: the greatest show on earth?
It's just occurred to me recently that I never hear of circuses in Australia. I'm not sure if they don't have them (I have a feeling the general pulse would be more opposed on grounds of animal cruelty, etc., than your average American sentiment) or if they're just not that big or I've just not been paying close enough attention, but I haven't heard of one, let alone the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus (yes, I know Barnum and Bailey were American ... but still).

They do exist, at least in Victoria, so I suspect they go to NSW too, but I don't think you're likely to hear about them unless you live in an outer suburb.
Yeah, we just had the Moscow Circus come through Darwin. I didn't go, as they either bore me or creep me out, but a lot of my friends went.
The Australian 'name' in circuses with animals is Circus Royale. Most others have gone out of the zoo aspect.
It's more common to see ads for the circus in rural / smaller town locations - the fee to hire the showgrounds may be less than a comparable location in the major cities. Also, since there's often less (competing) entertainment readily available in rural areas, they have a better chance of attracting a sizeable audience in those locations than in the city.
