quicko: ketchup or not

There's a bit of an issue here.  Seriously.  Ketchup.  And I'm not just talking about the fact they call it "tomato paste" or some other such nonsense, it's more that you just can't get enough of it.  On burgers, for instance.  It just isn't inevitable, let alone having enough of it.  And waitresses don't automatically bring it.  And fries don't automatically come with it.  And even when you do get it you can be hard pressed to get enough.  But you feel funny asking in the first place, because, really, isn't it just a quiet little condiment?

Yes.  It is.  Entirely too quiet here, alas.

Tomato paste, if it exists, goes on pizza bases. What you're looking for is tomato sauce. Ketchup, as you have noted, does not exist, with the possible exception of within McDonalds and even that's debatable.

Where are you buying your chips (again, fries only exist in Maccas)? You should always be able to get tomato sauce, if you know what you're asking for.

Oh, yes. You're right. "Tomato sauce." And the so-called sauce does not really taste exactly the same as ketchup. The chips are at pubs or restaurants that look too nice to ask for the coarser condiments in. Or maybe I'm just lazy. But really. They ought to bring you ketchup with your ... chips. Oh, gosh. That's just a revolting image! Fries!! Ketchup and fries!!
