quicko: ads

It seems a bit backwards, but I think the ads on Australian TV are uniformly of a higher quality than the ones on American TV.  It's not so much that the Australians make better ads as that there's very few local ads.  So, it's like having all ads for big national products -- cars, laundry detergents, fast food, etc. -- but not for local yokel carpet places, gyms, politicians and such.

Spend some time 'in the bush' (i.e. regional areas such as Dubbo) and you'll get a laugh out of all the different sort of ads shown there. When I lived in Walgett I became vary familiar with ads for sheep dip, glyco-phosphate, ads for places in Mt Isa and Townsville (on the Qld regional channels I was able to pick up)...

Oh, my goodness, I hate Australian ads! They're almost never clever. They often shout. 80% of ads seem to be talking heads (testimonials). I miss the advertising from the UK and South Africa.
