quicko: 4 weeks of vacation
I think I've probably touched on this before, but it really deserves its own post: Australians are automatically given 4 paid weeks of vacation per year if they have a full-time job. FOUR weeks! Right off the bat! And once they've worked for a company for 10 years, they are given "long service leave" of 3 months. THREE PAID MONTHS!!!

Also applies to part-time workers. Only applies to directly employed, 'permanent' workers, not contractors or casual workers.
If one of the latter groups, one needs to take into account that one will not be paid sick, holiday (public or annual), carer's, parental or long-service leave when working out an appropriate pay rate (should be around 25% more than a direct employee would be paid). A downside of being a contractor or casual employee is that banks don't want to lend to you as your employment isn't 'secure'.
