quicko: cooee
The Australian bush call. If one finds oneself in the wilderness, one evidently is entitled to shout COOEE to the wind and see who answers. Useful for distress, friend finding or general amusement with echoes.

It 'works' because it's easier to 'shout' than "Help!" without straining one's voice, caries a long way and is an obviously different* sound from all the other natural sounds.
*Unless a lyrebird has been living near a bunch of lost bush-walkers. :-)
