So I've been informed that this classic children's rhyme is common in Australia -- but instead of "tiger," the Australian version is -- extremely innocently I am vociferously informed -- exceptionally inappropriate by American standards. The emphasis on this particular note is, I am told, the innocence with which Australian children are so very inappropriate. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions.

Although, my parents didn't like us using the term that you are offended by and instead we used 'little boy'. I have also heard of it as 'Indian'.
I expect that since 'that word' is so inappropriate in the USA that it was changed many years ago and, because we don't have a particular history with that word we haven't changed it. When I was a child I often had difficulty working out what word people were using at that point because (a) it gets garbled and (b) various people used various versions.
Far better to use 'Red Tic Tac, You're not it' when working out who 'it' is to play Tiggy.
