Following last year's dehydration disaster, I was well set up with 4 1/2 liters of homemade ice tea, tons of water and a friend in the shade with a tent who got there at 11 so I could come at 3:30 instead. We had fun camping out until the others trickled in after 8.
However, seeing as there was so much iced tea to avoid the dehydration disaster, this time we had the public facilities fiasco. Oh dear. I just really, really, really don't do public restrooms and despite friends' best efforts to teach me "discretion," I really just can't. The first trip was traumatic, but I managed to find flushing facilities (Americans of course do not use the "t" word -- it is vulgar!) and survive, though without soap. A quick text to a friend later and handy wipes were on their way. (Four years in Australia has still not taught me to rough it. It is possible to avoid roughing it -- easy, even, usually. Just stay in Sydney!)
Anyway, the second trip was the real horror. The second trip involved waiting in line for about 20 excruciating minutes (the men's line, of course, being nonexistent) only to find that, really, the facilities were simply beyond unacceptable. This led to the wait in a different line for different facilities that looked reasonable -- and ultimately proved to be, 20 more doubled over minutes and 5 missed calls from lost friends later.
Next year: back to dehydration!
Anyway, here are the photos! Unfortunately the fireworks ones really didn't materialize this year, but the display was fantastic. Your other friends will have better photos, though. Otherwise, check out the ones from years past on my blog if you're so inclined!

You have a problem with the word 'toilet'? I remember asking for the 'facilities' in a USA restaurant once and just getting a blank look until I asked for the 'toilet'.
