quicko: dental work

Thankfully I've never had to have dental work done in Australia -- mostly because it's egregiously expensive.  It's generally known to be one of the most ridiculously priced services in the country -- and that is saying something!

It all depends on what you need done...and whether you have private health insurance. A check to see what you need done can be around $50 - $60. A scale, clean & fluoride treatment is maybe up to $100 more than that. It's been a long time since I've needed anything in the way of a filling so I've no idea on those prices.

PHI will give you a fair chunk of your costs back (or pay it direct to the dentist). Different companies have different amounts they'll pay for different things - some do a flat % while others pay more for some things and some don't pay for some (major) items at all, depending on your coverage level.

And of course, it's probably always best to ask for a quote (or even a ballpark figure) if you need something serious done.

Another good reason to remember to brush and floss every day.
