quicko: here
This is just one I've been noticing a lot lately: here. The pronunciation is just so very Australian -- every time I hear (ha) it, I think, "wow, you're Australian!"

I'm intrigued - I can think of some USA accents that would heavily (to Aussie ears) emphasise the 'r'. Is there anything you can point to to define what makes it distinctly Australian (since I would not notice the things you notice)?
It seems that our accent is 'regionalizing' to some degree (not sure that it will ever be as distinctive as UK or USA due to higher population mobility and multi-cultural immigration than the UK or USA would have had at a similar period in their developments). Apparently in Brisbane we have no clear distinction between 'caught' and 'court' whereas someone from Toowoomba does. Toowoomba is 1.5 - 2 hours drive (around 100km straight; 120km driving) west of Brisbane for those not familiar with it.
