quicko: cake walks

Now possibly Australians do these all the time, but I've been here nearly six years and I've yet to be invited to a cake walk, so I'm going to go with the descriptor "not all that common" or else possibly "things we never invite Americans to."

To be fair to the Australians, the only time I have been aware of cake walks is at elementary school carnivals. If that is also the case in Australia, it stands to reason that you would not have been invited to one, since that is not the age group of your peers anymore. And, really, would you expect your boyfriend to take you out to a cake walk for a hot date?

Erm, if you explain what a cake walk is, I'll let you know if we have it under a different name.

I looked up where the term 'cake walk' comes from and, considering it comes from an African-American slave background, no, we wouldn't have it. The closest we'd come would be a bush dance, and that stems from British farmer / folk dance origins.
